Messiah

Dec 28, 2021, News and Updates

written by Pastor Vradenburgh George Frideric Handel’s oratorio – Messiah – is without doubt his “magnum opus”– his greatest work (and he had many). Having suffered a stroke and fighting depression, he gave what he considered his “farewell concert” in April, 1741. Then from the depths of anxiety, he rose to compose this Magnum Opus […]

Why Jesus Came – Sermon Application #2

Dec 16, 2021, Sermon Applications

As we have been learning, studying Jesus’ purposes for coming into the world lead us to meditate on many wonderful truths about our salvation!  We know that Jesus came to save us, but the glory of this salvation unfolds before us only as we continue searching the Scriptures.  In Sunday’s sermon, we examined several marvelous […]

Why Jesus Came Pt. 1

Dec 13, 2021, Sermon Applications

Recently we were blessed to focus on the reasons for why Jesus came into the world. And if we were asked why He came, we would probably reply with something similar to Paul’s words:

“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” 1 Timothy 1:15

While this is certainly true, there are numerous other reasons given throughout the Bible!

Thanksgiving Obtains the Spirit’s Blessing Pt. 1

Dec 03, 2021, Sermon Applications

A thankful heart is a humble heart.  As Pastor Vradenburgh noted, a proud heart is what makes us unthankful toward men and God.  When we are proud and unthankful, God resists us and we forfeit many blessings of the indwelling Spirit.  The Bible says, “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” (James […]

Healed by His Stripes Pt. 2

Nov 18, 2021, Sermon Applications

The doctrine of substitutionary atonement through Jesus Christ makes manifest the immeasurable love of God.  In 1 Peter 2:24, Peter says that “[Christ] his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree.”  Even without the familiar quotation “by whose stripes ye were healed” the connection to Isaiah’s prophetic crowning jewel is […]

Healed by His Stripes Pt. 1

Nov 15, 2021, Sermon Applications

It was a great privilege to spend Sunday morning meditating upon those marvelous words in Peter’s first epistle, “by [Christ’s] stripes ye were healed (1 Pet. 2:24).”  Pastor Vradenburgh pointed out that the Greek word translated to “stripes” is not plural, but rather singular; literally “by whose stripe ─or wound─ ye were healed.”  Since the […]

Zoom Prayer Meetings Draw Us Closer to God and Each Other

Oct 11, 2021, News and Updates

Almost every Saturday morning since the pandemic began, I’ve met with a handful of ladies over zoom to pray. Before we knew the term “social distancing,” these prayer times were held in person at church, which I admittedly attended very rarely. Now, with my coffee cup in hand, I slip away for 45 minutes on a Saturday morning to holy ground in my upstairs office with the morning sun shining through the window.

The High Cost of Discipleship – Sermon Application #2

Sep 30, 2021, Sermon Applications

Jesus gave the connected parables of deliberating over potential construction and potential battle to make us pause and contemplate the cost of living a genuine Christian life (Luke 14:25-33).  Our fleshly inclination is to make our own costless form of Christianity, but this compromise only leaves us with a form of godliness void of spiritual […]
