Sharing the Good News Missions at Friendship Baptist Church

At Friendship Baptist Church (FBC), we exist to glorify God through the salvation of souls and the edification of believers. Jesus gave the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19 in which He instructs us to “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations….” We believe that the key word in that verse is “all.” If we seek to obey our resurrected Lord, we must evangelize the lost, both at home and abroad, simultaneously. This belief drives us to engage actively in sending and supporting missionary endeavors for evangelism, discipleship, and church-planting all over the world. We are committed to doing as Scripture calls us to do: pray, plant churches, and send out missionaries physically and financially by faith.

Missionary Support

Friendship supports many missionaries both at home and abroad as we seek to fulfill Christ’s command to make disciples of all the nations. We do this by prayer and regular financial support–made possible by our members–and by obeying the call to go into the mission field, should it come.

Through our annual “Missions Conference,” we host several new and veteran missionary families, get to know them better, and learn about their specific needs and challenges as they go out into the mission field. As the Lord allows, we use this time of missions emphasis to bring on new missionaries for regular support.

As our church partners with missionaries in prayer, we also share in the fruit of our labors through sacrificial, financial giving. “Faith promise” giving is based on a commitment to God that–in faith–He will supply funds in addition to regular tithes and offerings for the purpose of missions. Our members are challenged during the annual missions conference to exercise personal faith in making a weekly commitment to assist in supporting church-sponsored missionaries for one year. This is not a pledge to the church but a commitment to the Lord for the spread of His gospel.

Additionally, our missions emphasis carries over into our worship services. When missionaries on furlough return, they are able to share reports on the successes, challenges, needs, and burdens for their field of service.

Student Ministry Missions

FBC’s Student Ministry actively participates in our missions outreach. We organize mission trips for our youth and teens approximately every-other year during the summer. These trips are structured to work in cooperation with missionaries in the field and typically involve activities including special music, literature distribution, direction of Vacation Bible School programs, and more. It’s a hands-on way for our youth and teens to experience the spiritual needs abroad and the reward of evangelizing as God has called us to do.

Missions for the Master

Missions for the Master is a “ministry of helps” at FBC. While our members vary in terms of age and skill, we are all united in Christ and share the goal of serving the Lord with manual help to His people. We work on cleaning and maintenance projects around the church, handle specific needs of widows and other church members, and travel to help pastors and missionaries with building repairs, refurbishing, and other construction needs.

Witnesses unto Him everywhere

Acts 1:8 says “…and ye shall be witness unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” At FBC, we recognize that we are called by God to spread His Word throughout the world as witnesses for Him. We are privileged to support many missionaries and ministry outreaches worldwide and to engage in our own outreach within the North Raleigh area. It all fits into our mission to “declare the whole counsel of God.”
